Today I've done a little browsing around GML (the geographic markup language)and JP2 (JPEG 2000). My understanding is that the new jpeg file format standard will allow for the inclusion of XML data and that GML is a standard based on XML designed to provide geographic information. So by combining JPEG & GML you will have images with associated geographic data based on a standard!

This is great for the emerging industry, Location Based Services. I think that it won't be long before new component is added to websearching, Location. I think that in the next couple years we will see searching like google's Local Search become far more common place and widely adopted. Why? Because mobile devices bring more importance to location for the user experience.
